Lewes Town Council Allotments

Renting an allotment is an inexpensive way of ensuring you have a healthier and greener way of life.

Lewes Town Council maintains and manages six allotment sites in Lewes. The sites are located at:

  • Haredean
  • Landport Road
  • Paddock Road
  • Queens Road, Malling
  • Church Lane, Malling
  • Highdown

A illustrative map of Lewes Town Council’s allotment sites can be seen below.

We do not own all allotment sites in the town. Other allotment sites not managed by Lewes Town Council include the Boughey Memorial Allotments at Earwig Corner, owned by Lewes District Council and managed by an allotment association for the benefit of Lewes residents and the allotments on Malling Down, owned by Sussex Wildlife Trust.

Allotment tenancies

Allotments are rented to Lewes residents on a yearly basis. To take a tenancy, simply write to Lewes Town Council to express interest. Many sites are full, but new plots come up often.

We operate waiting lists, and prospective tenants can specify their first and second choice of site for the next available plot. Some plots are quite large, dating from the earliest days of the sites, but these are subdivided to create new plots for waiting gardeners whenever the opportunity arises.

To discuss allotments, please email our Allotments Officer at [email protected].

In March 2021 Lewes Town Council adopted a new set of policies for the letting and management of its allotments. All tenants and prospective tenants will be provided with a copy of the policy statement and guidance for tenants. Allotments may be used for growing vegetables, flowers or fruit, but not for commercial sale.
